By overall acreage of land for sale, Virginia ranks 19th. Recent data from Lands of America records about $9 billion in land for sale in Virginia. The overall size of land for sale in the state is appromixately 468,000 acres. Of the 133 counties in the state, Franklin County had the most land for sale. There were 2,341 acres of sold land in Virginia recorded in February 2019 through the Lands of America sales program. This reflects an increase in sales activity over data from the month before. The most land sales in the state last month were located in Floyd County. Virginia's 40 wildlife management areas total more than 200, 000 acres, in addition to the state's other public hunting lands. Big-game species include black bear, white-tailed deer, wild turkey, and elk. Over 2, 300 miles of wild trout streams beckon anglers in Virginia's Blue Ridge and Allegheny mountains. Of this area, 39,490 square miles of the state is land, while the remaining 3,285 square miles is covered by water.
