Recent data from Lands of America records $2 billion in land and other rural acreage for sale for sale in the Old Dominion. This represents a total of 150,208 acres of land for sale in Virginia. The most expensive piece of land listed for sale on Lands of America recently was $49 million, although the median price for land for sale in Virginia came in at $300,691. The average price of land for sale in Virginia was $403,246. There was 3,258 acres of sold land in Virginia recorded last month through the Lands of America sales program. This reflects a four percent increase in sales activity over the previous month. The total value of this sold land and rural real estate was $18.2 million. Virginia's 40 wildlife management areas total more than 200, 000 acres, in addition to the state's other public hunting lands. Big-game species include black bear, white-tailed deer, wild turkey and elk. Over 2 and 300 miles of wild trout streams beckon anglers in Virginia's Blue Ridge and Allegheny mountains. With numerous opportunities to hunt species including deer, boar and wild turkey, hunting land was the most common type of land for sale in Virginia. Of the 133 counties in the state, Washington County had the most land and farms for sale. In terms of its size, Virginia is the country's 35th-largest state, covering an area of 42,769 square miles (27 million acres). In its entirety, 39,490 square miles (92 percent) is made up of land, while the remaining 3,285 square miles comprises water.
